On Monday, after 1901 days in pre-trial detention and pleading for political asylum, Julian Assange has been released.

According to information given in X by Wikileaks, he was released on bail by the London High Court and taken to Stanstead Airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.
Assange is heading to Australia, his native country, where he will have to wait for the conclusion of the agreements between the United States Department of Justice and the British justice.
In the communiqué published by Wikileaks it is stated, “After more than five years in a 2×3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from bars”.
The release of Julian Assange is the result of a global campaign involving grassroots organizers, press freedom advocates, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, including the United Nations.
“WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people’s right to know,” the statement said.
The Assange family thanked all those involved in one way or another in the release of Julian and assured that more details will be offered about the upcoming future of the director of Wikileaks.
